Why did we start EMPet?
I work in Animal Rescue, and have for a long time. Vets are not always available, so people contact us for help.
The first thing people do.. Is panic. Which we fully understand. These are their Children. They care.
And when we build a history to see what emergency procedures and medications van be used, People go blank. This is human. This is because the mind is focused right NOW ... on the emergency at hand.
We started giving more thought to this. People taking their Fur- or Feather babies to the vet, esp a new vet (people move, we get that too), and the vet receptionist or vet asks: When last did they get like this, if ever? Previous issues? And they go blank too.. or forget about very important happenings. Things that would make diagnosis easier.
Animals cannot tell us what is EXACTLY wrong. They tell us SOMETHING is wrong. History is so important. And keeping everything on hand will help your Baby... and the Vet. I have seen misdiagnosis from vets - because the owners omitted extremely important information. It was not their fault. Medical treatment is REALLY REALLY hard when they cannot speak, and it is a more complex issue than just a broken bone.
Just like with humans, animals gets MORE issues these days, and more complex issues. We would love to help the animals, and the vets. Be the midway in the chaos of emotions, fear and anxiety;
How does this work?
Fill in the form so we can make contact, and start the process.
We will send you the forms in the format you request, either PDF or Excel,. Fill in the forms in the best way you can. Also, get ready photos or scans of all the needed documents (if any), invoices (if any), the 3 photos per pet as needed (one front, one from the left side and one from the right side) and any marks that can help with identification, and mail all this to us.
We will then create your account, your pets profile and give you login detail on the profile.
Costs involved
The initial Profile Creation and space for 1 year is R300, which includes one Companion added.
Per companion added, a fee of R50 is applicable.
From the second year, a Profile Fee of R150 +50 per addition is applicable.
Why can we not create profiles ourselves yet?
We will do that at a later stage. Although its more work for us at this stage, us creating the profile is helping us to establish that everything is working fully and as it should.
Can others see my profile?
No. No one else can see. You get a link and QR code to access your profile, but also a specific Pin to be able to enter the page.
When you receive your EMPet Card, the link and QR will be easy to see, but the pin is hidden in the card, and not as easily spotted, so someone cannot just take a photo and enter. You can also request Pin changes if need be.
Changes and Addons
You can request changes and addons on your profile in the first 2 weeks of receiving your login, as part of the setting up.
After that, you get 10 times to do addons and changes for free, per year. After that, there will be a small fee per session.
In the event of adding on another pet/companion, there is a fee per soul.
Lost Companions
In the rare but possible event of your companion getting lost, you can use your profile to easily raise awareness, as a single screenshot could help with identification. NEVER give out the Microchip / tracker number on public information! The photos and name is enough to show others what he looks like.
In the event of others trying to claim your companion, you have your profile and the microchip/tracker number as proof of ownership.
a Passed Companion
We understand the stress, grief and anxiety this event bring. We therefore made provision, and passed companions will have a "button" on your profile, which will lead to a page dedicated to them. When you let us know of their passing, you can add up to 20 of our favourite photos to remember the companion by. Whenever you need, you can enter and have a look at this.
We will also give information on how death works, and how you can use ashes, or hair clippings etc, and have remembrance urns, jewelry, paintings etc made. We also give you a session with us to talk about death and the questions you have afterwards.
